Co-Founder & Clinical Director – The Joint Effort Medical Clinic
BSc (Hons), MBBS, MRCGP (2013), DipMSKMed, DFSEM (UK), PGDip Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (Distinction)
About Me
I am an NHS General Practitioner with a specialist interest in musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine with nearly 20 years of medical experience. My career spans hospital medicine, general practice, sports medicine, and advanced musculoskeletal care. I founded The Joint Effort Medical Clinic to deliver personalised, evidence based MSK treatment that is accessible, efficient, and focused on restoring function and not just managing pain.
Medical Training & NHS Experience
I graduated in Medicine in 2008 from the University of East Anglia Medical School (UK) and also hold an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences. I completed my Foundation Training in the highly competitive West London Deanery, followed by GP Specialty Training through the popular Watford VTS scheme. I achieved Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2013.
I currently work as a GP Partner in a busy NHS practice, continuing to provide frontline care while integrating NHS experience with specialist private MSK services.
Education, Teaching & Professional Roles
I am a GMC accredited trainer and educational supervisor and am actively involved in teaching medical students, Foundation Year doctors, and GP registrars.
Education and mentorship are central to my professional identity, and my teaching is firmly grounded in practical, real world clinical experience and compassionate patient care.
Musculoskeletal & Sports Medicine
Musculoskeletal medicine has been a core focus throughout my career. I have assessed and treated thousands of patients with acute and chronic MSK conditions across both general practice and sporting environments.
Over the past four years, I have worked as a club doctor for semi-professional and professional sports teams, managing acute injuries, overuse syndromes, and performance related issues in elite athletes.
I hold the Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine and am a Diplomate Member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (UK), as well as a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM).
Ultrasound & Injection Therapy
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (Distinction), completed with the Homerton University Hospital Sports and MSK Medicine team.
My clinical practice includes advanced ultrasound-guided diagnostics and joint injection therapies, including:
Corticosteroid injections
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Ostenil®
Durolane®
Arthrosamid®
I have performed thousands of joint injections and take pride in offering a calm, clear, and supportive approach—ensuring every patient feels informed, comfortable, and confident in their treatment plan.
Why I Founded The Joint Effort Medical Clinic
Like many of my patients, I became increasingly frustrated by long NHS waiting times, impersonal care pathways, and system delays that prevent people from accessing timely, specialist MSK treatment.
I founded The Joint Effort Medical Clinic to offer a better alternative: rapid access to expert, multidisciplinary care that treats the whole person, not just the symptoms. My aim is to help patients return to pain free movement and full function with clarity, expertise, and genuine compassion.

Dr Gajan Idaikkadar, MD, MRCGP (2018), Dip MSK Med, DFSEM (UK), PGDip in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Diagnostics & Injection Therapy
Co-Founder & Clinical Director, The Joint Effort Medical Clinic
With nearly 15 years of NHS experience, I bring an expansive foundation across hospital medicine—including A&E, rheumatology, dermatology, cardiology, and internal medicine—as well as general practice. My passion for musculoskeletal care was further honed during a two-year placement in orthopaedics.
As Co-Founder and Clinical Director of The Joint Effort Medical Clinic, I am dedicated to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care that is accessible, responsive, and tailored to the individual.
Education & Training
After graduating in 2011, I completed my foundation training within the competitive Buckinghamshire deanery. I then undertook GP specialty training via the highly regarded Watford VTS scheme, gaining MRCGP in 2018. Since then, I have served as a GP Partner at a large NHS surgery.
Teaching & Mentorship
Accredited as a GMC Tier 3 Trainer and Educational Supervisor, I teach and mentor medical, as well as Foundation Year doctors and GP registrars. I have also completed the First Contact Practitioner (FCP) Supervisor course and now serve as the FCP lead supervisor at my Primary Care Network. I have also completed the official Crowd doctor and Practitioner course in 2023 to help deal with acute and chronic injuries in sports medicine.
Clinical Roles
Currently, I work as a GP Partner in a practice near Watford. I serve as an NHS Appraiser, conducting appraisals for fellow General Practitioners across Hertfordshire. Additionally, I continue to engage in acute care—both in out-of-hours 111 services and A&E—where my orthopaedic experience is particularly valuable.
Musculoskeletal Expertise
Musculoskeletal medicine remains central to my practice. I have assessed and treated thousands of patients in general practice and sports medicine environments. I completed the Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine with the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, achieving Diplomate status (DFSEM (UK), and I'm a member of BASEM (British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine).
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Diagnostics & Injection Therapy from the University of East London, undertaken in partnership with the Homerton University Hospital's Sports & MSK Medicine Team.
My clinical expertise spans ultrasound-guided diagnostics and a variety of joint injection therapies—including corticosteroids, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Ostenil®, Durolane®, and the newer cartilage lubrication agent Arthrosamid®.
Having performed hundreds of ultrasound-guided injections, I am recognised for delivering care that is specific, high quality, and empowering ensuring every patient feels informed, reassured, and fully involved in their treatment decisions.
Vision
Frustrated by the delays, bureaucracy, and impersonal nature of some NHS pathways, I established The Joint Effort Medical Clinic with my colleague Dr Thiara to offer a better alternative: rapid, expert, multi-disciplinary care focused on whole-person wellness rather than just symptoms.
My mission is to help individuals regain pain-free movement and full function—with clarity, confidence, and compassion.
